I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who practices using an eclectic approach; Eclectic therapy is an open, integrative form of psychotherapy that differs based on the distinctive and exclusive needs of each specific client, depending on the problem, the treatment goals, and the client’s expectations and motivation for therapy. An eclectic therapist pulls from a variety of disciplines and psychotherapy approaches and may use a wide range of proven methods to establish the best combination of therapeutic tools to help the client. In effect, an eclectic therapist tailors the therapeutic process for each individual by using whatever form of treatment, or combination of treatments, that have been shown to be most effective for treating the particular problem.

Some of the theories and interventions I gravitate towards include a variety of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions implemented with a hint Humanistic approach to emphasize empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard while promoting change.

As a Marriage and Family therapist I firmly believe in the impact of a strong therapeutic relationship and contend that change starts with a positive therapeutic alliance. In an effort to get there, I utilize Satir’s most commonly used interventions, which focus on communication and healthy boundaries. Through effective communication I aim to shift maladaptive patterns into a more durable and constructive lifestyle. While moving towards change and increased well-being, I also aim to gently challenge my client’s negative core beliefs to increase my client’s positive sense of self.

I adapt to my clients’ needs and requests to build the foundation necessary for a successful therapeutic relationship that targets reaching personal and therapeutic goals, as well as wholeness. I strive to give my clients the support they need while challenging them in the areas they need to be challenged in, when ready. I listen and work with my client(s) to ensure that therapy is a safe environment in an effort to work on many different aspects of one’s life.

I hope this helped get a glimpse of what awaits you in our therapy room.
