I have always enjoyed learning about other people and their unique stories. Trying to help others has always been deeply rewarding and fulfilling for me. In high school, I tried to help all my friends with the question of what to do now that they are at a crossroads in life?! I have found counseling to be helpful to me and it is my passion to similarly make a difference in other peoples lives. I always thought about becoming a therapist but like many others my career path was a winding road until I settled on mental health counseling. After college, I decided to go into Human Resources for five years before deciding that my true calling was therapy. Along the way, I spent my 20s living in six different states to see what like was life in different parts of the United States, an experience I have cherished. Now I am rooted in Austin, Texas with my fiancé and our Labrador Retriever puppy named Buckley. I like playing tennis, swimming, hiking and checking out Austin’s impressive restaurant and food truck scene. In my spare time I like to give back to the community. I volunteer at a food pantry for those in need and tutor students to help them do well in school.
My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Masters degree in Human Resource Management from Rutgers University, and a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Idaho State University. During graduate school I completed 1,000 hours of counseling in various settings such as a mental health clinic for students, a university career center, and a private practice in which I saw clients of various cultural backgrounds with a range of presenting issues. I have taken extensive coursework on mood disorders including depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. I have also worked a lot with couples and am trained in Gottman Level 1 which is a certification of coursework I have completed to learn methods that help couples with various issues they may face.
