My name is Adam Garcia Walterbach, LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). I am a Denver psychotherapist providing counseling and assistance. Coming to therapy can be intimidating, for some, as it generally comes with some admittance that things in life aren’t going quite as we planned. It can be helpful to think of therapy as the opportunity to make the desired changes in one’s life to optimize our mental health and increase our overall well being. Collaboration is key.
In essence, the more you share, and the more time you invest, the more I can assist by utilizing my knowledge and training to help you in building the life circumstances that you desire.
I find that discussing the past can be useful in understanding our present. What is the present other than the compounded experiences of our past? Calling attention to our past experiences allows us to bring awareness to what has affected us and help determine the direction in which we are heading.
While I work with a variety of client issues and concerns, some of my specialties are assisting members of the LGBTQ community, navigating work/Denver startup stress, finding meaning and purpose, and breaking intergenerational patterns and behaviors learned from family usually stemming from trauma.
Therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes. You may, if you desire, request a longer session contingent on schedule availability.
This depends entirely on your therapeutic goals. Certain therapeutic models are time limited; however, my approach is not. I encourage my clients to bring whatever emergent issues are most present. Continued growth means that new problems and new methods of solving them will emerge. It is entirely up to you with regard to how long you would like to be in therapy.
Again, this depends entirely on your therapeutic goals. With that said I recommend coming to session on a weekly basis for your first month. Your frequency in attendance is always negotiable and I want to respect your pace as well as your availability.
Yes! We will schedule a phone call and I will inquire about the reasons for seeking services. Should we decide to work together I will provide you with all relevant information about what to expect from your first scheduled appointment.
Due to concerns surrounding COVID-19 I am now offering teletherapy. I utilize several different (in case there are technical issues) HIPAA compliant platforms. Sessions are never audio/video recorded. If you would like to attend an in-person appointment I request that clients wear a mask, for the time being, in the waiting room area prior to entering an office. Once in the office you may remove your mask or leave it on depending on your comfortability. In addition, six feet of distance is to be maintained throughout your visit.
I hold a Colorado license that allows me to see all residents of Colorado. If you are temporarily living out of state I will need to consult with that state’s licensing board to confirm allowances and restrictions prior to scheduling an appointment.
You may follow me on my professional accounts as they relate to my practice. This currently includes Facebook and Twitter. If you come across any personal accounts for me or someone you believe I may be related to I request that you respect my privacy. In addition, I do no follow clients on social media.
My office is located directly across the street of the Macy’s at the Cherry Creek Mall.
