What is Mental Health

What is Mental Health? It is the ability to perceive, understand, evaluate and control one’s own internal resources including self-image, motivation, energy, performance, resilience, success, health and relationships.

Mental health, defined as the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) by the American Psychiatric Association, is “the state of mind in which an individual realizes his/her capabilities, is capable of dealing with the demands of life, is able to make an active contribution to his society and possesses interpersonal skills that facilitate interaction”.

Mental health also involves relationships between people with diverse mental disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, psychosis, post-traumatic stress disorder and addictive disorders.

In general, people who have mental disorders experience a disturbed interaction between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors and other people.

People who take care of their mental health engage in a concerted effort to enhance their physical health.

It does not matter if you are a teenager with anxiety problems or a senior citizen with chronic pain, improving your physical health will improve your thinking process, your moods and your response to stress.

For example, if you want to learn how to handle stress so that you will not be constantly overwhelmed, start taking care of your physical health and condition. Exercising regularly will increase your stamina and improve your immune system.

People with mental health are also more likely to develop well-balanced relationships with others.

They have greater emotional intelligence and are less likely to engage in destructive behavior.

A healthy body and a good mental health are closely connected since exercise releases endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers.

In fact, good physical health is one of the best ways of getting a good mental health.

People with mental health are less likely to experience panic attacks, a common affliction for people in distress.

If you have to deal with a stressful situation, it would be advisable to try to remain calm.

You should avoid getting too much attention; instead, take some time off to do something that would release your tension.

If you are taking care of your physical health, it is important to take care of your mental health as well.

Learn to handle stress by exercising and getting a good night’s sleep every night.

The American College of Rheumatology says that obesity is a symptom of what is mental health. It is also called “the silent killer.”

The symptoms include lack of concentration, decreased productivity, increased risk of depression, loss of relationships, social isolation and more.

According to Gunnia said, being obese or overweight is a symptom of what is mental illness in society today.

One out of every four American adults has at least one form of gunnia and more than a quarter of those adult’s will develop a serious form of the condition, called the obstructive gunnia.

Gunnia also called the forward roll, or lumbar flexion. As we age, the muscles lose flexibility and begin to lose elasticity, like springs.

This can lead to pressure in the spinal cord, which can cause severe pain. Gunnia’s main causes are stress, diet, obesity, smoking and poor exercise and mindfulness can help prevent the development of mental health issues.

Why is Mental Health Important?

Why is mental health so important? The reasons are many, ranging from a person’s ability to live a full life and function normally to their ability to contribute to the world around them.

Mental health is something that you can visibly see, and sometimes it is easy to believe that you just have to take it and deal with it.

However, it is not as easy as to ignoring a broken leg, or some other physical health conditions which can very obviously be diagnosed and treated.

People suffering from poor mental health often struggle to lead a normal life, and this can be very difficult for those around them.

There are many reasons for this, however one of the most important is that people who suffer from poor mental health tend to have many more problems with their relationships.

Sometimes they may even be suffering from panic attacks, depression and other disorders.

While it may seem that the problems caused by mental illness are beyond your control, it is impossible to avoid them.

If you are living with someone who suffers from mental illness, the best ways to treat the condition is to get them help as soon as possible.

When someone is in distress, the first thing they need is support and help. If you are living with a person who suffers from panic attacks, depression and other disorders, there are many ways you can get help.

You may want to try some relaxation techniques such as meditation or hypnosis, but it is important that you seek advice before doing any of these.

There are also many psychotherapy programs available to treat various types of disorders, and you should use these if possible.

How does this affect your mental health? It helps to know exactly what your emotional, psychological, and social well-being is like.

Knowing what your levels are like will allow you to make changes in your life that will help you cope better.

When you learn how to deal with stress effectively, you will be able to do many things that you might not have been able to do otherwise.

One of the important reasons why is mental health is important to have is because it helps to reduce the effects of aging.

The aging process is an important biological factor, but it is not the only one. Many people experience declining mental health during their lives, and this can be associated with increased heart disease, poor circulation and weight gain.

However, you don’t have to just look at your biological factors. You should also consider the changes that you are making in your life, such as the amount of sleep that you are getting, or whether or not you are taking care of yourself mentally.

If you are doing these things, you will be able to maintain good health, no matter what the age is.

Another reason why mental health is important is that the condition can affect the rest of your life. Some common mental disorders can affect your ability to make decisions and handle stressful situations.

If you suffer from a serious disorder, such as bipolar or schizophrenia, you may have trouble managing yourself in a variety of different situations, making it more difficult for you to recover completely from any disorder.

Causes of Mental Health Problems

There is no known cause of mental illness, but there are many common symptoms of mental disorders.

Some of these include unusual or unstable behaviors, strange thoughts and often very rapid speech as well as problems functioning within relationships and with others.

Usually, it takes a mental health professional trained in psychology to diagnose the disorder.

There are many causes of mental illness out there that we may never know about.

The Genetics of Mental Disorders Some experts believe there could be several genes that are tied to some types of mental illness that we have heard so much about.

For instance, in those with depression, less of the neurotransmitter serotonin (in the small intestines) is sent to the synaptic vesicles than in those who don’t (more around the brain).

Similarly, those who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder have changes in their brains that could affect their neurotransmitters.

Other scientists believe that there could be multiple genes tied to schizophrenia and even ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

The Brain chemistry is also tied to many things, including mood swings, changes in sleeping patterns, eating habits, medications that are taken and even how someone looks at the world.

These changes can cause mental illnesses over time. For instance, a person with a depressed mother and poor diet because of the medications she takes as a child can grow up to be a psychiatrist who drinks four or five drinks a day, eats only one item for breakfast and then another for lunch.

A person with a violent mother, which was probably caused by domestic violence in childhood, might develop psychological issues and become addicted to drugs, alcohol or even guns. There are causes of mental illness that run throughout the life of anyone.

Common Mental Health Disorders Among Teens And Adolescents

There are a number of common mental health disorders that teenagers and adolescents are vulnerable to.

The most common is depression or mood swings, which can start out as teenage angst or teenager depression. They can grow out of it as the adolescent ages into their teenage years.

Another common disorder in adolescents is bipolar disorder, which is when a person has extreme highs (high energy, high irritability) and lows (depressed, low energy).

This can change from one teenager to another and can be very confusing for the teenager and the family.

They may start out with just one type of mood disorder but then they switch back and forth between the two extremes.

A third common mental health disorder that teenagers and adolescents are prone to be generalized anxiety disorder or GAD.

This is where a person experiences frequent and intense feelings of anxiety on a regular basis for no apparent reason.

Children are very vulnerable to this type of anxiety because they have not completely developed emotionally or cognitively.

This is also more common among boys than girls and can come on before a child even turns thirteen.

The fourth common mental health disorders that teens and adolescents are prone to be post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD.

This is a very serious condition that can cause long term problems in the life of the teen or adolescent and should be treated.

Teenagers are especially vulnerable to PTSD because of the amount of trauma they go through during their lives such as sexual assault, abuse, or natural disasters.

Sexual abuse is a very common sexual disorder for children and often goes unnoticed by the family and friends.

Typical Mental illnesses

The most common mental disorders include: bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and delusional disorders.

These are all very serious and individuals should seek professional assistance if they find themselves suffering from any of these disorders. If you go to the doctor and explain your symptoms, you may be told that you are bipolar or having a depressive disorder.

Unfortunately, these are things that many people just try to ignore. If you attempt to dismiss them, they might continue to haunt you long after you think that the problem has been dealt with.

If you find yourself suffering from one of these disorders, you should know that it is very possible to get help.

Many individuals find that going to therapy and taking medications works well for them. Some drugs, such as antidepressants, are used to treat some of these typical mental illnesses.

There is nothing to be ashamed of about when it comes to seeking out help for any of these mental disorders – you will be happy you took the time to do so.
